About Me

My name is Mike and I’ve been exploring the wilderness for over 20 years. I started Backcountry Mentor in 2016, as a way to share my experiences and knowledge about wild places. My initial plan is to share backpacking and bushcraft knowledge via Youtube videos, and eventually expand into doing in-person guide services for those wanting some hands-on learning.

I live in Akron, OH, just minutes from Cuyahoga Valley National Park, and a few hours from the Appalachian Mountains, where I’ve spent countless nights under the stars in my hammock (yeah, I’m one of those weird hammock guys).  My Daughter, Shelby, is 9 years old, and I’ve had the fortune to be able to take her into the woods since age 2.

There is a ton more to my story, but that can be saved for another day. Happy hiking!
